Mace (Mac<e) is a community in the Krapina-Zagorje County
some 15 km south-east of Krapina.
Population 2,900, only some 700 in the village of the same name.
The Coat of Arms info is from Brako Balaško via
Tomislav Šipek. It may also be seen in not much useful form
at <www.mace.com.hr>.
The coat of arms of Mace is Azure a mount vert issuant from base
pierced with a sword argent hilted or in bend with water pouring
from the spot. I very much doubt that there is any
connection of the place name with the Croatian word for sword
"mac" that sounds quite similar, but it may very well
be that the sword was chosen to cant it anyway. The region with
numerous low tame hills surely gave rise to the use of the mount
in the Coat of Arms, but I suspect that there may be some other
interesting legend behind the symbolic. The spring water refers
probably to Sutinske Toplice, a termal spa in the vicinity.
At the moment I have no info on the flag.

Tomislav Šipek reported that he observed the flag of Mace
when visting the place a few days ago. The flag is blue with the
golden bordered coat of arms in the middle.

there are available official gazettes since 2001 from which
mostly this is compiled to update info we currently have.

The decision adopts the symbols already reported.

Coat of Arms and flag were designed by Heraldic Art d.o.o from
Rijeka and approved by the Ministry of Administration/Central
State Office for Administration before 2006.

The new 2009
Statutes repeats the description of the Coat of Arms and the
flag as introduced in the 2006 Statutes after the adoption in
2003 (so, of course, the previous 2001 Statutes do not include
them).
