Overview

The modern coat of arms of Krapina is based on a seal from XII century, picturing the same fortified city in circular shape with name of the city around it. The current colours are determined finally during XIX century. The flag is red with the coat of arms in the middle.
As some point in early 1990's it was reported that Krapina uses flag of brown field with the coat of arms of somewhat different artistic redention all in golden-yellow lined with black. Status of that flag unknown and unconfirmed. Possibly it was used to differentiate from very similar flag (unofficially) used by the County at the same time.

I just received a photo in local magazine Zagorski list, br.34, 09.06.2004. shows the three flags on display in the Krapina-Zagorje County Assembly Hall - the middle one is the flag of Croatia, to its right (viewer's left) is the Ceremonial Flag of the county and on the other side is the ceremonial flag of the city of Krapina. I believe that such display of two ceremonial flags together is rather unusual, probably the two share the same assembly hall.
According to the same photo and also on the flag reported by Tomislav Šipek from several media, the ceremonial flag of the city of Krapina is a red gonfalon with three unequally long triangularly ending tails with golden tassels and with the coat of arms in the middle an dthe name of the city above.
It may be interesting to note that the two flags side by side on the photo clearly show different rectangular sleaves in the upper edge. I do not find any specialy meaning in that, but just an observation.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company from Rijeka.

Coat of Arms

Prior to the adoption of the current flag in ca. 1995 the city of Krapina used a flag that I have observed (alas, I have no photographs) in ca. 1993 - brown with with black lined coat of arms on a yellow patch. The coat of arms of that design was in use in Krapina at least since 1979, as can be seen from the headers of the local newspapers issued in Krapina since 1979 until 1989. The newspapers are now digitized and available at <krapina.arhivpro.hr>. The coat of arms of this pattern was used in the header of the newspapers since 1979 until mid 1982, and another design of more Baroque shield shape within a cartouche was used since.
Unfortunately, I was unable to document this coat of arms and flag any further so far, any help would be appreciated. There may possibly be a decision describing this coat of arms in 1970's official gazettes of the community of Krapina, and there may even be description in the early statutes of the city of Krapina, say in 1993/1994.
Any further info on this would be appreciated.
