Overview

Kumrovec is a community in the Krapina-Zagorje County, some 30 km north-west of Zagreb, 20 km south-west of Krapina, on the bank of Sutla river forming the border with Slovenia. In 1992 the region was made part of the community of Tuhelj, but Komrovec seceeded from it in 1997. Kumrovec has two important historical places. The one by which it is most reknown is the birth-house of Marchal Tito, that is still being a tourist attractions, this days mostly on 25th May, the traditional Tito's birtday and 4th May, the day of his death. During the socialist period near the Tito's house was gradualy formed an ethnological park-museum that gathers the traditional houses and way of life in the region (the museum is among prestigeous European museums, as few years abck it received annual prise for the best in Europe). The ethnographical collection of the Museum has given the source for the coat of arms. The other historical site is a place at river bank of Sutla where the Croatian anthem was written. There was (in 19th century?) erected a monument to the anthem and its writer Antun Mihanovic'. The monument was featuring in the previous coat of arms of the community of Tuhelj, but this was changed since the community of Kumrovec sceeded from it.
The Coat of Arms of Kumrovec is: Party per bend guels and argent in spades line. The design is frequent in folk art of the region, especially in woodwork. The flag is dark blue with yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle. The flag is based on personal observation (and photos) in Kumrovec last year. The design is made by Heraldik-art from Rijeka, that means that probably there exists also a ceremonial flag.

At the web site of the County <www.kr-zag-zupanija.hr> there are available official gazettes since 2001 from which mostly this is compiled to update info we currently have.
Kumrovec - Statut Opcine Kumrovec, 8.10.2001, Službeni glasnik Krapinsko- zagorske županije, br. 15/01, 05.11.2001.
The new Statutes, article 4, includes the description of the Coat of Arms and the flag that must have been adopted some time before that.
It also include the statement that this is the historical Coat of Arms of the community, but for what I am aware this Coat of Arms was devised anew in 1990's and could not be historical at all. I believe that it was designed by Heraldic-art of Rijeka, but have no confirmation for that.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company from Rijeka.
