The flag and arms of the municipality of Cillórigo de Liébana were adopted on 2 February 1996. The official adoption decree was published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria (Boletin Oficial de Cantabria).
The flag is vertically divided red-white-green. Red recalls the coat of arms; white stands for the snow which covers the Picos de Europa (2,648 m) most of the year; and green stands for the landscape of the municipality. The webpage does not explicitely state that the municipal coat of arms should be placed on the white stripe, as shown on our website.

The flag and arms of the municipality of Cillórigo de Liébana were adopted on 2 February 1996. The official adoption decree was published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria (Boletin Oficial de Cantabria).
The coat of arms is: "per fess, silver a fleur-de-lys azure, gules a spur or." A Spanish Royal crown is placed over the shield.
The fleur-de-lys represents the St. Mary's (Santa Maria) church in Lebena, a village part of the municipality of Cillorigo de Liebana. This church was founded in 925 by Count Alfonso and is the most important jewel of Mozarabic architecture in Cantabria. The Mozarabic art is the Spanish Christian art which developed in the Xth and XIth century in the northern regions of Spain which had remained independent, but incorporated Islamic art elements.
The spur represents the Cavalry Academy which was founded in the village of Colio, part of the municipality of Cillórigo de Liébana, by General Diaz Porlier during the Independence War against France (1808-1814). The Cavalry Academy was the base of the Seventh Division, later the Cantabrian Army. Until recently, people from Colio celebrated the Cavalry Academy by wearing shoes with spurs during local festivals ("fiestas"), and were nicknamed "espolistas."
