Serbia (People's Republic of, Narodna Republika Srbija until 1963; then Socialist Republic, Socijalistička Republika Srbija
until 1991) used a red-blue-white flag with a star, officially
adopted on 17 January 1947.
The Serbian tricolour dates from 1835,
and is based on the Russian colours.

Coat of arms of Socialist Serbia - Image by Željko Heimer, 4 October 2004, adapted from the WIPO IPDL database
The traditional shield of arms of Serbia (without the cross) above
rising sun with cog wheel, surrounded with golden wreath of maize and
oak leaves. Red ribbon with dates 1804 and 1941. Above golden
outlined red star.
The religious emblem - cross - was removed because of ideological
reasons (atheistic Socialism). The years refer to the
first Serbian uprising against the Turks and national uprising against Axis powers in Second
World War, respectively.
The emblem was probably adopted in the same time as the flag, on 17 January 1947, and it is supposed that it was designed by Đorđe Andrejević-Kun, also supposed to be the designer of all Yugoslav emblems of that time.

The two Autonomous Regions of Vojvodina and Kosovo had no flag and used the Serbian flag, since they were legally parts of the Serbian Republic.
