Theta Delta Chi was founded at Union College in New York in 1847. It was the first fraternity to have an official flag, adopted in 1870. The current version was approvied in 1888 and is an adaptation of the first design. The flag is a vertical tricolor, blue, white, and black, with the Greek letters of the name inscribed in white on the blue and black stripes and in black on the white stripe. The colors are said to symbolize loyalty, purity, and secrecy.
