The town Fiľakovo is situated in centre of the Cerova vrchovina highlands,
remarkable in terms of geology and landscape with romantic rocky formations
(vulcanic hills, rocks, stone seas, table hills...). It is the second town
of the district of Lučenec, near the Hungarian border (11 km). Fiľakovo
went down in history as the oldest town of Novohrad region. The first written
record comes from 1242. The history of the town is closely associated with
the castle, which is towering in the center of the city as the most significant
monument of culture and history. The castle was a most significant fortress
of Novohrad region as a component of the defense line against the Turkish
