Presentation of Luče

The municipality of Luče was formed in 1995, by separation from the municipality of Mozirje. In 1998, part of the municipality formed the new municipality of Solčava. In 1994 Decisions introducing the new municipalities it seems that the name of the municipality was anticipated as Luče ob Savinji, referring to the river that waters the region. It seems that the municipality did not retain that attribute in its official name

Municipal flag of Luče

The symbols of Luče were adopted on 1 August 1999.

The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.

The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:5, horizontally divided in three equal stripes green-white-green-white-blue and a green square field throughout covering the entire middle part. This square field contains the peasant woman with the lamp and the fish from the municipal coat of arms.

Coat of arms of Luče

The coat of arms of Luče pictures on a silver background a green mountain and on a blue stonly base standing a peasant women holding a lamp in dexter and in a back-basket a fish proper.

Valt explained the coat of arms as follows:
For centuries the serfdom women from Luče have been carrying to the diocese of Ljubljana live trouts in wooden backpacks locally called brenta. The walking tour over the mountains from the river Savinja to Ljubljana took more than 12 hours (one way), so the women carried a lamp or a torch. The nobility in Ljubljana required fresh fish each Friday. To remember this, the people of Luče wanted to have in the their coat of arms a serfdom woman carrying fish on her back. In heraldical representation, dozens of small fishes in a backpack are represented with a big one. The green mountain in the background is the representation of Mount Radoha, unheraldic but the result of a compromise.
