When Swede Johan Frankelius climbed Mount Everest in 2006, he brought
a flag of Uppsala (Uppland) with him. As can be seen on the image in this
page on
svd.se, it was obviously a flag meant for vertical hosting.

The arms of Upland was granted at the time of the funeral of Gustavus I (1560); a revised grant was made on 17 November 1939. The orb would probably be a sign for Upland as the province of Sweden was (and still is) the political centre of Sweden.
