Gliwice county (Powiat Gliwicki), Śląskie vojvodship, consists of
the communes (gminy) Gierałtowice, Knurów,
Pilchowice, Pyskowice, Rudziniec, Sośnicowice,
Toszek, Wielowieś.
Gliwice city is a separate county, no part
of Gliwice county.
Already on August 25, 2005 the Gliwice County adopted a flag
( see below). Also there was a controversy with the
Heraldic commission. Point of criticism was the crossed hammer and ear.
Both figures do not represent Gliwice County. Despite the negative advice
of the commission the symbols were adopted.
After a veto of the Marshall of the voivodship of Slaskie (Upper Silesia)
new symbols were adopted on 31 Aug.2006. Now typical local symbols were
used. The tower with the yellow roof originated from the coat of arms of
Gliwice
city.
