Official name: Waterschap De Aarlanden; seat: Ter Aar, Zuid-Holland
province.
Flag adopted 6 Apr 1987; design: G Steenge, secretary of the polderboard.
Description: Three vertical stripes proportioned 2:1:1, blue- yellow
- red, with on the blue stripe two white swords in saltire, pointing upwards,
with below a white hunting horn, placed in such a way that the height of
the swords and hunting horn together are 4/5 flagheight.
The colors and pieces are derived from the arms. The blue is the color
of the shield of the arms. Swords and hunting horn were the insignia of
the former municipality of Aarlanderveen, from which the polderboard derives
its name. The inescutcheon is a part of the municipal arms of Ter Aar,
namely of the lordship of Voshol. Ter Aar is the seat of the polderboard.
Yellow and red are the colors of Ter Aar.
The flag looks like that of Ter Aar.

The polderboard contains a large part of the lands of Arkel, while the

Vijfheerenlanden. The family of Vianen had several possessions in that
area. The land of Everdingen is nowadays also part of the polderboard's
territory. The arms of van Leede is a variant to Arkel. The family had
several possessions in that area. The inescutcheon is from the coat of
arms of the Alblasserwaard and occurred too in the polderboard with that
name.
The lion and swan have been taken from the old arms of the Alblasserwaard
met Arkel beneden de Zouwe..

Waterschap DE GROOTE WAARD. Theun Okkerse made an original design with
a so-called "wet (=blue) crown" and mirrored water in bright and dark blue.
Ther polderboard however wanted the complete arms outlined in blue, which
resulted in the image above. It merged, together with the polderboards
De Brielse Dijkkring, Goeree-Overflakkee,
IJsselmonde, into De Hollandse Delta.

Dutch name: Hoogheemraadschap van de Krimpenerwaard; seat: Krimpen aan
den IJssel.
Flag: vertical red and yellow, separated by a white fly-chevron bordered
black. The top of the chevron is at the hoist. Proportions of flagheight,
chevron, and border is 20:3:1. Adopted after design by Kl. Sierksma, after
advice by the Stichting voor Banistiek en Heraldiek.
The Krimpenerwaard is formed by the Hollandsche IJssel and the Lek rivers,
and named after the twinvillages Krimpen aan de Lek and Krimpen aan de
IJssel. The western point of this island is the Stormpolder, where the
Nieuwe Maas is fed by the Hollandsche IJssel, in which as a start of the
"Deltawerken" the huge "stormvloedkering" was constructed
(to ward off any silly mistakes in the first construction-stages). At Krimpen
aan de Lek the Nieuwe Maas is fed by the Lek.

Flag: 1:1, white, in the center the complete arms, vis: "Or a lion
gules, in the chief an N and a W, all gules; the shield bears a golden
crown with 5 fleurons.
The polderboards of Nederwaard and Overwaard are together in charge
of the watermanagement in the Alblasserwaard. They are the founders of
a famous groupo of windmills near Kinderdijk. The flag is more a standard
than a real flag; the arms are those of Holland with the initials of the
waterschap. This flag is especially flown off the "schouwboot",
the showboat, from which an inspection of canals and ditches is performed.

Dutch name: Hoogheemraadschap van Rijnland; seat: Leiden, Zuid-Holland
province.
Flag: white, in the centre a black double-headed eag;e with yellow
aureoles, on its breast the yellow-crowned shield of Holland, viz. 'Or
a lion gules'.
Rijnland is one of the oldest and most important polderboards and the
first to have its own arms (1596). It covers the greater part of the polder
areas between the villages of Amsterdam, Haarlem, Den Haag and Gouda. The
flag is similar to the arms, which are said to be derived from those of
Willem II, count of Holland, Roman King (+1256). Thence the arms of Holland
and the Imperial Eagle. The arms, however, are not known before 1596 and
are obviously designed afterwards to show the ancient tradition of the
polderboard.
