Sassenheim municipality

Number of inhabitants (1 Jan 2003): 14.835; area: 6,62 km². Settlements: Sassenheim (seat).
The municipal flag was adopted 22 May 1973 by municipal resolution. The design was made by the "Stichting Banistiek en Heraldiek" in Muiderberg. It is derived from the municipal arms. Description: nine stripes following the hoistdiagonal of yellow and red.

On 1 January 2006 Sassenheim merged with Warmond and Voorhout to form the new municipality of Teylingen.

Sassenheim CoA

Granted 24 Jul 1816.
The shield is topped by a marquess' crown of 5 leaves. Dirk van Sassenem, who owed his possessions in 1322 to Count Willem III of Holland and Zeeland. had a CoA with four oblique red bars on gold. This banner (original fieldsign of the prince and some high noblemen) has become the CoA of Sassenheim.
