2003 UFEs

A photo of Lebanese UFEs in a Yahoo News anti-war slideshow shows a mix of flags and Saddam posters. The flags are: a black flag, apparently with no other elements in it, a green flag with some white writing and the hoist of a red-white-red triband, clearly a Lebanese flag.

Again, this is a Shahada on bedsheet.

Seems that those flags in various variants are used all around the area and cannot be attributed to any one group.

Reporting an addition to this: I saw yesterday some TV coverage of another demonstration in Lebanon that included also one Hezbollah flag, one flag of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and a red flag with a large black hammer and sickle all over, therefore a UFE, along with flags of Iraq and portraits of Saddam.

Continuing to dig in the Yahoo photos, I found this photo, which shows another flag I had never seen before. It's apparently dark gray (or grayish-green?) with yellow Arabic inscriptions. The demonstration took place in Lebanon, and the photo includes other vex objects of lesser interest.

Among the Yahoo photos, I found here a funny sighting. It's a red-white-red triband. Since the picture was taken in Beirut, Lebanon, one might think it's a Lebanese flag. Well, it isn't. There's no cedar in the middle, and instead what's to be found there looks a lot like... the Iraqi coat of arms.

Odds are that this is simply a means to say that the Lebanese people are with the Iraqi people. But just to be sure, is there any known Iraqi flag like that?

Here you're able to see yet another Lebanese flag unknown to me: a green and red horizontal bicolour with what looks like a COA or a related symbol in the canton. Any ID'ing?

2005 UFEs

The elections in Lebanon were covered on "The World" last night on BBC4 tv. I haven't cropped the images too closely, in case the pictures or writing in the shot give a clue about the flags. The poster in this photo is that of Michel Aoun, and the flag might be that of his party.

André Coutanche, 21 Jun 2005

It might be a flag of his party, or the former flag of it, but it does not resemble any of the several current ones. For some reason the logo – a blue outline map of Lebanon over a blue globe – suggests a media organization of some kind to me. Aoun's FPM operates a TV station, Orange TV, but its logo is quite different.

There was also a red over white horizontal bicolour, not to be confused with the National Liberal Party's flag, which is white over red and with a golden cedar; this one was just red and white with no defacement.
