Overview

In the official gazettes of the Zadar County (<www.zadarska-zupanija.hr>) there is but one reference to the newly adopted Coat of Arms and flag for the community of Gracac. Gracac is a community in the Zadar County, the main town of the same name counting just above 4,000 inhabitants, situated in the mainland off-the coast some 30 km over the souther end of the Velebit mountain range. The place is an important crossroads, and nearby are the Cerovac caves (Cerovacke pecine), the largest explored cave system in Croatia, partially open to the public so an improtant tourist site.
The official gazette of the Counyt gives the decision with the descirption of the new symbols: Izmjene i dopune Odluke o izgledu i korištenju grba i zastave Opcine Gracac, 25. svibnja 2004, Službeni glasnik Zadarske županije, 18. lipnja 2004, str. 19. The decision amends an earlier decision that is apparently not published in the official gazette, probably adopting some other symbols that were not approved: Odluka o izgledu i korištenju grba i zastave Opcine Gracac, Kl. 017- 01/03-01-01, Urbr. 2198/31-01-03-1, 10. srpnja 2003.
The coat of arms of Gracac is: sable a bear passant or holding in its jaws a fish argent and in the chief stalactites also argent. The flag is green with the golden bordered coat of arms in the middle.

The officials of the community responded to my request and provided the full text of the decisions adopting the symbols and the matching drawings.
The 2003 decision adopts the design already, however the wording of the description is somewhat more complicated. The 2004 decision , changed the descriptions to more proper heraldic blazon. Neither of decisions mention the ceremnial flag, however it was included in the drawings provided by the Community.
The symbols were designed by Heraldik-art from Rijeka, as the most (if not all) of the modern coat of arms and flags being adopted in Croatia in recent years.   In my blazon, is there a better simplier word for "stalactites", my dictionary does not have it... a web site sugested dripstone?
The ceremonial flag is a green gonfalon ending triangulary with golden fringe, the coat of arms in the middle bordered yellow, above it name of the community in two arches and below it two oak branches.
