Podstrana is a community in the Split and Dalmatia County,
about 10 km south of Split along the
coast, 7,300 inhabitants all in one same urbanized area covering
the territory of the entire community (by the 2001 census, the
average age of the inhabitants is 33,5 years, making this
community the second youngest in Croatia). Until 1980 Podstrana
was considered suburban part of the city of Split.
As shown on the community web site at <www.podstrana.hr>, the
coat of arms of Podstrana is: azure a fluer de lis argent gorged
with a crown or. The crown is of the early Croatian style and
presumably should represent duke Mislav (around 835-845). In 839
Mislav signed a peace treaty with Venice in Podstrana, after an
unsucessful attack by Venetians to the Eastern Adriatic coast. It
is recogned that Mislav owned lands in Podstrana.
No info on flag for the time being.

Coat of Arms and flag were designed by Heraldic Art d.o.o from
Rijeka and approved by the Ministry of Administration/Central
State Office for Administration before 2006.

On the web site of the community at the page <www.podstrana.hr/vijesti_130608.html>,
all the way at its bottom, there is a photo from a ceremonial
session of the communal assembly, where the flag and the
ceremonial flag are visible next to the national flag.
Not unexpectedly, the flag of Podstrana is blue with the coat of
arms bordered yellow in the centre.
However, the ceremonial flag is not expected - it is a dark red
gonfalon, however, the photo does not provide enough details for
me to draw it.
