Overview

Davor is a community in the Slavonski Brod and Posavina County, some 40 km west of Slavonski Brod, opposite to the confluence of the river Vrbas into Sava. About 3,300 inhabitants, ca. 2,500 in the town of the same name. In the Middle Ages it was known as Svinjar, renamed to Davor in 1896 by a decision of the Croatian government of 20 December 1895. The location made it an important place for river crossing (ferry). The annual fishing festival is one of the main events in the town today.
The new 2009 statutes (Statut opcine Davor, 29.06.2009, Službeni vjesnik Brodsko-posavske županije, br. 12/2009, 14.09.2009) describes the Coat of Arms and the flag, without mentioning of the golden outline around the anchor. It also names the kind of the fish that is swimming there to be a carp (Cyprinus carpio). This might have already been included in the previous statutes (SV BPŽ 11/01 and 11/05) that are not available on line.
