On a TV report today I noticed the coat of arms and the flag
of Faana, the community established only in year 2000 .
Faana is in the Istrian County (Italian name Fasana),
situated northwest of Pula just
outside it - on the coats across the channel from the famous
Brijuni Islands resort. Fazana actually includes the Brijuni
island group. The coat of arms is azure an antique amphore
or. Fazana was site of the amphore production and export
and no doubt that is the reason for choosing this emblem. The
flag is (dark) blue with the coat of arms bordered golden in the
middle.

In the official gazette of the Istrian County (<www.istra-istria.hr>),
there is published the decision on the flag and coat of arms of
the Community of Faana (unlike for the other communities
who does not seem to publish their decision in the official
gazette of Istrian County): Statutarna odluka o grbu i
zastavi Opcine Faana, 23.02.2004., SNI, br. 003/04,
05.03.2004. str. 99-101. The decision includes nice pictures of
the coat of arms and the flag.

The symbols were designed by the Heraldic
Art d.o.o. from Rijeka.

The official web site f the community menations coat of arms
in a paragraph titled "general information" - there is
a claim that St. Cosmos and Damien, the physicians-protectors
watch over the town as they do in the coat of arms of
Faana. However, we know (and the web site also shows it)
that the coat of arms of Faana is blue with a golden
amphore. There is no mention of the saints anywhere in the
documents regarding the coat of arms I have found. Possibly this
is reference to some historic coat of arms - or more likely, it
is only the "poetic licence" of the author of the
entire paragraph...
