Overview

The web site at <library.foi.hr> include a project of digitazing of the regional journal Glas Podravine, from its first issues in 1951.
- An article from 1995 includes an interview with the mayor of Peteranec, showing the coat of arms (apparently it seems to be a photo of it being embroideried on a flag!) of Peteranec. Obviously, such coat of arms was not approved but it may still be hoisted on that flag in some assembly hall in Peteranec...
The coat of arms includes the building of captancy (built in period of the Military Frontier, now the seat of the community administration), a key of St. Peter and Paul (sicne Peterance is also mentioned in documents as the port of Drava). Then there are corn ears, waves and chequy field.

Peteranec is a community in the Koprivnica-Križevci County, 7 km NE of Koprivnica, almost 3,000 inhabitants, just over 1,500 in the village of the same name. In 14th century it was site of the imortant river crossing over Drava into the Hungary, but since the river changed it course somewhat to the east, being dozen of kilometres away. In 19th century it was an important regional centre, later it stagnates a bit - today as suburban area of Koprivnica flourishes once again.
The coat of arms and the flag of Peteranec were adopted on 2 July 2009, following the approval from the Central State Office for Administration on 24 April 2009: Odluka o grbu i zastavi Opcine Peteranec, 02.07.2009, Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, br. 10/2009, 16.08.2009, str. 1015- 1017.
The same descriptions were then soon included in the new community statutes: Statut Opcine Peteranec, 09.07.2009, Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, br. 10/2009, 16.08.2009, str. 1027.
The coat of arms of Peteranec is: gules in a chevron issuant from the base argent a cornucopia, in the chief dexter a key or and in sinister a sword.
The flag is white, in ratio 1:2, with the coat of arms bordered yellow in the centre of it.

In the mean time, the community authorities answered my inquiery and sent me the drawings of the coat of arms, the flag and the ceremonial flag. Also they informed me that the design was done by the Rijeka company Heraldic Art.
The ceremonial flag is a white gonfalon ending triangularly bordered yellow and with golden fringe along the bottom, with the coat of arms in the middle, the name of the community above and below it a white scroll bearing a golden quill. The quill used in the ceremonial flag is reference to Peteranec being strong cultural centre of the region in 19th century (with a large library) and also to the most famous person from Peteranec - poet Fran Galovic.
The charges used in the symbols significate (I guess): the key for St. Peter, the patron and namesake of the community, the sword due to the military history of Peteranec - there was the seat of company during the Military Frontier period in Peteranec, the command building still being the main building in the village, the cornucopia for the richness of the agricultural region. The chevron shape is, In my opinion, inspired by the County coat of arms.
