Overview

Ðelekovec (Djelekovec) community is one of the few in the region that does have a historical coat of arms (from 18th century, I think). It is shown in [ern03] (from some earlier source, possibly issued in 1920's?): azure on a mount vert a soldier stantant with a blouse gules, trourses of the first and boots or holding in his dexter a sabre argent handeled or and in his sinister a Turkish head couped.
This coat of arms is not used nowdays, probably considered "politically incorrect" or too "cruel". No other symbols were adopted by Djelekovec, and certainly no flag.

Ðelekovec is a community in the Koprivnica-Križevci Count, some 10 km north of Koprivnica, around 1,800 inhabitants, some 1,400 in the town of the same name. Former spelling gives it as Gjelekovac and Djelekovac. In the feudal system, Ðelekovec had a status of an independent community with obligation of paying taxes to the feudal lord and to serve in his banderium (military unit) in the time of war. In Ðelekovac was in 1887 born Croatian writer Mihovil Pavlek Miškina. He was member of parliament from the Croatian Peasant's Party (HSS), leader of ts "left wing", until the World War II, then he supported the partisan resistance since 1941. He was killed in the Jasenovac concentration camp in 1942. Incidentally, some other prominant supporters of HSS in the inter-wars period are from Ðelekovac as well: painter Mirko Virius, autor Mara Matocec, phyisician Pavle Tomašic etc. Regarding Ðelekovec being relatively small place, it is suprising that there are even today numerous publicly known persons born there, just to mention Damir Polancec, current vice prime minister for economy.
Ðelekovec has a historical coat of arms: azure on a mount vert a soldier stantant with a blouse gules, trousers of the first and boots or holding in his dexter rised a sabre argent handled or and in his sinister a Turkish head couped. This originates from a seal from ca. 1820 and was coloured by Laszowski in his 1936 book. As suggested above and as I found out from conversations with Dražen Ernecic who prepared the exhibition on local coat of arms and flags in Koprivnica 2003 (see [ern03]), there was certain oposal in the community to readopt this historic coat of arms for the modern community. I believe the word they used was "cruel". Anyway, the historic pattern was too strong and in 2006 this coat of arms was formally adopted also as the coat of arms of the community. The decision on that was published in the county official gazette: Odluka o grbu i zastavi Opcine Ðelekovec, 25.07.2006, Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, br. 10/06, 27.10.2006. The flag was also adopted at this time, blue with the yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle. At the moment I do not have the drawing of the adopted pattern, but it must closely resemble the historical one.

The web site at <library.foi.hr> include a project of digitazing of the regional journal Glas Podravine, from its first issues in 1951.
- An article from 12 August 2004 report the new coat of arms and flag of Ðelekovec in colours - presented on a solemn session of the community assembly. The flag is apparently blue with this coat of arm. Unfortunately, noting more is told about it. The design was formally adopted only in 2006. As we also know from the decision, the flag is blue with the yellow bordered coat of arms in the middle.

The several last issues of the County official gazette includes the new community statutes that include description of coat of arms/flag: Statut Opcine Ðelekovec, 30.06.2009, Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, br. 9/2009, 15.07.2009. str. 75415.07.2009. str. 742.
This is the first inclusion of these description in the community statutes, I believe, since they were adopted in 2006.

Antonio Grgic of Pikant Marketing is the author of the artistic rendition based on the historic coat of arms.

From the official gazettes:
The description of the symbols adopted in 2006 are included in the new Statutes: Statut Opcine Ðelekovec, 30.06.2009. Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, br. 9/2009, 15.07.2009.
