Forcarei is located in the province of Pontevedra, Autonomous Community of Galicia. It is made of the 13 parishes of Aciveiro, Castrelo, Duas Igrexas, Forcarei, Madalena, Meavia, Millerada, Pardesoa, Pereira, Presqueiras (S. Mariña), Presqueiras (S. Miguel), Quintillán and Ventoxo.
"La Voz de Galicia" reports that the municipality of Forcarei seeks approval of its municipal flag and arms. David Raposeiras, the Mayor of Forcarei, met on 20 November 2006 the Vice-Chairman of the Heraldry Commission of the Directorate of Local Administration, Carlos Acuña, in order to obtain the approval of the design of the coat of arms and to set up the base of the design of the flag.
The shield shows 13 rye ears for the 13 parishes that form the municipality; three mounts for the Seixo, the Candán and the Costoia that surrounds the municipality; the two rivers Lérez and Umia that limit the municipal territory; and a spindle and a distaff symbolizing the oldest recorded activity in Forcarei.
The shield was designed this year but was never officially approved since it failed to comply with the strict heraldic rules. During their meeting, Acuña and Raposeiras have neociated the changes required for the approval of the design. The shield will keep all its charges but will be submitted to minor changes. Accordign to the heraldic principles, the rivers will be represented a horizontal waves instead of flowing down the mountains, which will be represented as triangles instead of eroded shapes.
The design of the flag will incorporate the green colour representing Terra de Montes and some elements of the shield.
