Rincón de la Victoria was a fishing town up to twenty years ago, but at only 12 kilometres from Malaga, it has now become an important centre of both residential and seasonal tourism. One arrives on the Autovía del Mediterráneo, heading towards Motril and turning off at La Cala del Moral, or keeping to the autovía. The N-340 road passes through the town, and even from here one can see that this was once a typical fishing town on the coast.

The municipality covers an area of 30 square kilometres, and offers something for everybody: lots of hotels, restaurants and bars, ten kilometres of coastline for water sports or simply lying in the sun, an excellent golf course and other sporting facilities. The 18-hole Añoreta Golf Course, designed by Jose María Cañizares, is on the border with Torre de Benagalbón, and is considered one of the best in Spain. The paseo marítimo (esplanada) that links La Cala del Moral with Rincón is seven kilometres long, and from here there are wonderful views over Malaga Bay. There are chiringuitos (beach bars and restaurants) on the beach, where one can eat fresh fish or have a drink.

One of the old traditions that has not yet been lost in Rincón de la Victoria is net fishing on the beaches in the early morning. A net of about 40 or 50 metres long is thrown into the water by a group of men, who make a wide circle with it, gradually pulling it in to the beach again full of fish, if they are lucky. This is a sight that is seldom seen in other parts of Europe, and well worth getting out of bed early for.

The municipality of Rincón de la Victoria (locally known as El Rincón; 37,145 inhabitants in 2008; 2,751 ha), located on the Costa del Sol, is part of the metropolitan area of Málaga.

Until 1949, the municipality was named Benagalbón after its main settlement, known in antiquity as Bezmiliana. The seat of the municipality was then transferred to the village of Rincón de la Victoria, a former fishing village built on a beach flanked by two rocky spurs (therefore its name, in Spanish, "the nook"); the Minims owned there a sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin of the Victory (in Spanish, "victoria").

According to WebMalaga, the coat of arms was designed by the heraldist Mateo Gallego. The tower on the mountain in the second quarter, not mentioned in the blazon, represents the Castle of Bezmiliana and the cave represents the Treasure's Cave.

The Castle of Bezmiliana was built in 1766 by King Charles III on the ruins of an old tower watching the coast. It is used today as an exhibition center. (Concecer Málaga No. 59, January-February 2009)

The Treasure's Cave is a famous marine cave: "This marine cave, with a main gallery of 500 metres, is believed to have started life as a prehistoric sanctuary of the Moon Goddess Noctiluca, Goddess of fertility, life, death and hunting. Cave drawings of animals and ceramics from the Neolithic period have been discovered there. Tesoro means treasure in Spanish, and legend has it that in the 7th century a certain Emperor Tasulin Ibn hid his fortune within the cave's salty walls. Since then countless treasure hunters have tried in vain to discover the booty." (www.andalucia.com)
