The autonomous local entity of Bácor-Olivar (575 inhabitants in 2007), located 100km north-east of Granada, is part of the Municipality of Guadix (Province of Granada). Formed by the villages of Bácor (532 inhabitants), Olivar (33 inh.) and Los Balcones (3 inh.), the entity was officially registered on 21 February 2000.
In 912, the castle of Bácor, still standing in the middle of the village, was seized by Abd-ar-Rahman III from the local caid Ibn 'Arus. This success prompted him to set up a big army to pacify the kingdom he had inherited from his grand father Abd Allah, later known as the Emirate and Caliphate of Córdoba.
