Introduction

The municipality of Oria (2,777 inhabitants in 2007; 235 sq. km) is located in the Province of Almería, 150 km from the provincial capital. The town is mostly known for its baroque church, built in 1767-1779; made a Minor Basilica by Pope Leo XIII in 1879, the church was registered in 1999 as a National Historic and Artistic Monument.

Description

"Teleprensa" reports on 6 April 2009 that Oria will soon have a flag. According to the Mayor, the Institute of Heraldry and Vexillology "Borbone" was commissioned to design the flag. Based on a study of the history of the place, experts have designed a flag with blue and yellow as its main colours. The flag was embroidered in Afghanistan.
