Introduction

The municipality of Nacimiento (462 inhabitants in 2007; 8,100 ha) is located 50 km north-north west of Almería, on the border with the Province of Granada. The village has kept several "cortijos" (isolated farms), which recall that Nacimiento was in the late 19th century a wealthy wine-growing village. The vineyards were subsequently replaced by barley fields, while almonds and olives are still produced in the village.

Description

The flag and arms of Nacimiento were approved by the Municipal Council on 13 March 2009 and submitted on 5 May 2009 to the General Directorate of Local Administration, which confirmed them by Decree on 16 June 2009, published in the Andalusian official gazette (Boletín Oficial de la Junta de Andalucía, BOJA) No. 123 on 26 June 2009.

The relevant parts of the Decree are the following:

Coat of arms: - Spanish shield; Or two mounts vert topped argent, ensigned with an olive tree with trunk gules and foliage vert, charged with a pair of wings argent issuant from a sword in pale or. The base azure two fesses argents. The shield crowned by a Marquis' cap.

Flag: - Rectangular with proportions 2:3 (hoist to length); divided into two equal parts by the ascending diagonal; the upper part yellow and the lower part red. In the middle, the municipal coat of arms.

The symbols should be registered on the Andalusian Register of Local Entities, with their official written description and graphics (as originally submitted, but unfortunately not apprended to the Decree).
