The municipality of Nacimiento (462 inhabitants in 2007; 8,100 ha) is located 50 km north-north west of Almería, on the border with the Province of Granada. The village has kept several "cortijos" (isolated farms), which recall that Nacimiento was in the late 19th century a wealthy wine-growing village. The vineyards were subsequently replaced by barley fields, while almonds and olives are still produced in the village.
