Falher, Alberta (approximate population: 1109) located in Northwest Alberta is known as the honey capital of Canada with over 60,000 bee hives in the region. Hence the image of a bee hive on the municipal flag. The red cross and fleur de lis on the shield represent the local francophone community as well as the arrival in 1912 of Father Constant Falher, a Roman Catholic Oblate missionary who was born in the town of Josselin Brittany, France in 1863 and came to Canada in 1887. Bundles of wheat or grain on the shield represent the importance of agriculture to the local economy.
