The municipality of Linter (7,038 inhabitants on 1 January 2007; 3,637 ha) is located halfway of Tienen and Sint-Truiden. The municipality of Linter is made since 1976 of the former municipalities of Linter (made by the merging of Drieslinter and Neerlinter in 1971), Orsmaal (made by the merging of Melkwezer, Neerhespen, Orsmaal-Gussenhoven and Overhespen in 1970) and Wommersom.

The municipal flag of Linter is quartered, first and fourth, a white
field with a red lion with a yellow crown, second and third, a blue
field with a white armour greave.
According to Gemeentewapens in België - Vlaanderen en Brussel, the flag was adopted by the Municipal Council on 26 February 1990 and, again, 29 0ctober 1990, confirmed by the
Executive of Flanders on 18 December 1990 and published in the Belgian
official gazette on 25 September 1991.
The flag is a banner of the municipal arms.
