Presentation of Beerse

The municipality of Beerse (16,600 inhabitants on 1 January 2007; 3,748 ha), located 25 km north-east of Antwerp and 5 km south-west of Turnhout, is known as the "green lung of Northern Kempen" because of its 770 ha of woods.

Industry is represented in Beerse by a brick factory and the plant owned by Janssen Pharmaceutica. A genever called Beers Vlierke is also produced locally.
The Jan Vaerten Museum was inaugurated in 1988. It shows 150 works by the Symbolist artist Jan Vaerten (1909-1980). The painter was born in neighbouring Turnhout but stayed in Beerse from 1942 to his death.

Municipal flag of Beerse

The municipal flag of Beerse is blue with a crenelled yellow horizontal stripe and three yellow eight-pointed stars, two above the stripe and one below it.
According to Gemeentewapens in België - Vlaanderen en Brussel, the flag was adopted by the Municipal Council on 30 April 1992, confirmed by the Executive of Flanders on 12 May 1992 and published in the Belgian official gazette on 4 January 1995. It is a banner of the municipal arms.

It is said that the flag used before 1992 had a red field instead of blue.
