Tasmanian Steamers

[Tasmanian Steamers flag] image by Martin Grieve and Jonathan Dixon, 7 Nov 2005

Tasmanian Steamers is featured at http://merchant-navy-ships.com/index.php?id=17,0,0,1,0,0. The image on the site is not very clear, but there is a Union Jack in the centre of a red field, with some part of the saltires extending to the corners of the whole flag. There is also a white letter T to the hoist side of the Union Jack and a white S to the fly.
Jonathan Dixon, 25 April 2005

The company was formed in 1921 as a joint venture of Huddart Parker Ltd. and Union Steam Ship Co. of N.Z. Ltd. for the Bass Strait trade and the flag, taken from The Log, shows it as a combination of the two founders being red with a blue saltire surmounted by a Union Flag with the white letters "T" and "S" in hoist and fly respectively. The Australian National Line took over the trade in 1959 and Huddart Parker sold out to Union Co. in 1961 and they finally wound up the company in 1984.
