It is an orange - white - orange 3:5 triband, charged in the white panel with a circular device, consisting of a golden torch with red flames encircled with the lettering "UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE" above and the date "1794", surrounded by laurels, bellow, all in black serif capitals.

Letter Logo Flag - University of Tennessee Volunteers

Out of all of the colleges and universities across America, maybe a dozen or so have simple single letter logos that have staying power and have been around a really long time. The University of Tennessee would be one of those schools. This particular logo has been around as long as I can remember. Where these two flags are concerned, they have been popular for a very long time. In fact, I would argue that these two flags well may be the oldest logo flags in the Southeastern Conference. They have been around at least since I was very small, and I have an old linen white/with orange "T" version in my collection.

Both the orange flag and white flag are used interchangeably and can be seen by the thousands on any given football weekend in Knoxville, or throughout the entire state of Tennessee for that matter. As a rule, the flags are usually 3x5 feet.
