While they are one of three State-recognized tribes in Georgia, only two
claim Cherokee heritage - the Georgia Eastern Cherokee, and Cherokee of Georgia.
The third is the Lower Muskogee Creek. See

Georgia's recognition of these groups, and their legitimacy as bono fide Indian
tribes, was disputed by the federally-recognized Eastern Cherokee; for example
