Description of the Flag

The African American Unity Flag (AAUF) was designed by Mr. Vincent W. Paramore of Miami Florida. Mr. Paramore has a United States design Patent #Des;316.383 which can be seen in the official patent gazette at any Depository Library in the United States. Meaning in brief:

The Flag tells the history of a people who originated from Africa and found themselves in a new land stripped of their Religion, Culture, Language and History. It also memorializes black heroes and heroines known and unknown. The AAUF Serves to salute our continued progress for total freedom and equality.
Jarig Bakker, 27 August 1999

The flag design is indeed made of three vertically divided areas Ethiopia, U.S., and Garvey colors, but the middle one less wide than the others, yielding a square blue panel. The overall ratio seems to be 3:5, and the specs are thus (1+1+1):(2+1+2).

The blue panel has 41 stars, in a staggered pattern of 5×5 and 4×4.

The exact design of the lion is not as shown above (co-credit to Jaume Ollé), but close enough. At www.vwpgoodsuccess.com we find examples of this flag with even more divergent designs, namely the map of Africa.

The term of the patent expired in 2005, BTW, as it was granted for 14 years in 1991.

Meaning of the Flag

From: www.vwpgoodsuccess.com

At the hoist [left] representing the continent of Africa we find the colors green, yellow and red which are known as the pan African colors. The lion representing royalty and strength of African American people, historically dating back to ancient Ethiopia, "the cradle of civilization".

At the center of the flag we find the Flag of the United States of America, displayed in it's Presidential display position. The meaning has been revised to exemplify an African American meaning.

The blue field: is symbolic of the waters that separate African Americans from Africa and also serves as a memorial to our forefathers that were buried at sea during the Diaspora.

The star field: represents all of the African American heroes and heroines.

The four red stripes: represents a heroes salute to the descendants of Africans for surviving over (400) years of oppression in the USA. It also represents the blood that is still being shed fighting for freedom and equality.

The three white stripes: are symbolic of our faith in God, hope for a better tomorrow and charity one towards another.

At the far [right] are the colors red, black and green which symbolizes our determination and fight for political and economic power in the USA & the world. It also symbolizes the awakening of the consciousness of African Americans during the period 1950 – 1960 the black power movement.
