The flag for the City of Bonney Lake was first developed in 2008 for use in a
parade of flags at an annual conference of the Association of Washington Cities
held in Yakima, WA. Bonney Lake City Administrator Don Morrison provided input
to graphic designers, Matautia Design, of Olympia, WA. You will note the word
"Incorporated" was misspelled on the original design and is being corrected in
subsequent manufacturings of the flag. The symbols used on the flag are
explained as follows: (1) The gold and teal lettering of Bonney Lake and the
navy blue of the seal and background ducks were selected by the current Mayor,
Neil Johnson, Jr. The gold lettering represents golden sunshine on the lake and
the golden prospects of a growing city. The teal script lettering for the word
'lake' represents the beauty and motion of the lake's waters (Bonney Lake also
shares the shores of a much larger lake called Lake Tapps); and (2) The ducks in
flight surrounding the words, 'Bonney Lake', are an allusion to the indigenous
ducks on the city's lakes and more specifically to a statue located at the
City's western gateway on SR410 sculpted by nationally-known and local sculptor,
Larry Anderson; (3) The center of the city flag is an actual picture taken on
the waters of the City's small namesake, Lake Bonney.
