American Flag Survey (2004) and American
City Flags (Purcell, 2003) shows a
~2:3 light blue flag with the city seal centered on it (approx. diam. 14/27ths
of the flag height). The seal shows a lighthouse on a seaside landscape
background with a cross on the horizon. The edge of the seal is limited by ~40
leaping marlins and a white border is separated from the central image by a
wreath of strawberry leaves and reads "City·of·Virginia·Beach·Virginia", from
3:30 to 8:30 o’clock, and, separated by small stars, "Landmarks of our Nation’s
beginning", in smaller type; both set in black serif capitals.
