    Description of the flag

The Swisher County, Texas flag design was created by my sister, Lenora Hawthorne Smith, as part of a county-wide contest in 1975. Lenora was a Junior in Tulia High School - Tulia being the county seat. Lenora passed away in 1995. The first Swisher County flag ever made has been recently donated to the Swisher County Memorial Museum in Tulia by my father.

Some clarification of the description of the flag's elements:

    • The bottom left shows a windmill used to pump water out of the ground - a necessity in a semi-arid area where cattle and crops are raised
    • The plants are cotton and a wheat stalk, the two staples of Swisher County agriculture
    • A steer
