    Description of the flag

    From members.aol.com/_ht_a/txflags/panola.html

"Panola County's flag was designed by a special committee chaired by Leila B. LaGrone of the Panola County Historical and Genealogical Association. It depicts the words "Panola County" in red around a blue map of the State of Texas with a white star at Panola's location. Four black lines emerge from the star, connecting it to representations of those resources responsible for the growth of the County: a chicken for poultry, a cotton boll for farming, an oil well for minerals, a steer for ranching, a pine tree for timber, and coal for mining. All of these elements appear in natural color.

According to the Historical and Genealogical Association, the flag was adopted in July 1976. However, the County Judge's office has found no record of this in the minutes of the Commissioners' Court. It is possible that the Court of the time adopted the flag as a Bicentennial banner, rather than as a permanent symbol of the county.

The only copy of the flag is preserved under glass at the Leila Belle LaGrone Family History Center in Carthage, the County Seat.
