    Description of the flag

    From: hometown.aol.com/txflags/jackson.html:

"Kim Huff's design for a Jackson County flag was selected as the first place winner in a contest sponsored by the Pilot Club, a professional businesswomen's association. The flag consists of a red stripe over a blue stripe, fimbriated white. A large white Lone Star occupies the center of the flag. Within the star is a black ring around a locomotive. Just inside the bottom of the ring is the inscription "Founded 1836," referring to the date of the County's creation. The locomotive motif was chosen because of the importance of the railroad in the County's growth. Edna and Ganado, the County's two major cities, did not exist prior to the railroad's 1880 arrival. The flag was adopted by the Commissioners' Court on 14 April 1986."
