Connie Chappell, Clerk of the City Commission of the City of Springfield,
Ohio, sent me the following description of the city flag: "The seal is centered
in royal blue on a field of white for our flag. At this moment, I do not have
additional information to send to you." The seal was updated in 2001, so
probably the flag is from that year, too.
About the city:
"Springfield
is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Clark County. The
municipality is located in southwestern Ohio and is situated on the Mad River,
Buck Creek and Beaver Creek, approximately 45 miles (72 km) west of Columbus and
25 miles (40 km) northeast of Dayton. Springfield is home to Wittenberg
University, one of the nation's top liberal art and science colleges. As of the
2000 census, the city had a total population of 65,358, but in 2007, the
population was down to 62,417." - from Wikipedia:

Note the ecumenical character of this flag. Springfield has a relatively
large Jewish (dating to 1860s) and Muslim (dating to 1906 and including two
Ahmaddiya mosques besides the regular ones) communities, so it was obviously the
reason for adopting these items on the flag.
