Description of the flag

The flag is apparently the seal on white as shown on http://lawrencecountyohio.org/33.htm. The three symbols found on the Lawrence County Flag/Seal, designed by the Lawrence County Genealogical Society, were selected because of the significance of the originals in the developing history of the county of Lawrence.

The flag seems to be a simple white cloth with the county's seal in it, probably centered. The seal contains the words "LAWRENCE COUNTY / STATE of OHIO" in the outer ring and four elements in the central area: a branch with a couple of red fruits, probably apples, hanging from it; a drawing that looks like a small farmhouse with a fence and a bit of field surrounding it; a Mississippi basin riverboat, and a small scroll containing something I guessed to be the county's incorporation date: 1816.

The Lawrence County Seal is featured on the county flag. The seal was designed by the Lawrence County Genealogical Society, and the symbols were drawn by local artist Lee F. (Danny) Daniel, Jr. The seal was adopted by the County Commissioners on November 6, 1985.
Three symbols appear on the white flag. The Charcoal Iron Furnace reminds us of the rich mineral deposits in the area and of the historical production of high quality iron. The Rome Beauty Apples represent the ideal growing conditions for fruit trees and also the famous breed of apple that was developed locally by the Gillette family in 1816. The River Boat symbolizes transportation and the large number of Lawrence County men who worked on the Ohio River in the 1800's.
Lawrence County was established in 1815, organized in 1817, and named after Captain James Lawrence in the War of 1812.
