City Flag & Mottosubmitted by: Dov Gutterman, 11 July 2000
A contest for school-age residents was held in 1998, seeking a city flag design and a city motto. A township from the past, a city of the future A group of civic-minded residents and business owners were charged with the difficult task of judging the entries and choosing a winner in each category. Two flag entrants used similar designs - so a tie was declared between designers Matt Pitzo and Justin Callahan. Carrie West's motto "A township from the past, a city of the future" was chosen as the one that best represented our community. The motto was incorporated into the flag design, and today the result flies proudly over our city buildings and parks.
Green was transferred from township to village status in 1991 and then to city status in 1992. It is a city of about 23000 people, in Summit County, Ohio, near Akron. I think the seal reads: CITY OF GREEN A TOWNSHIP FROM THE PAST A CITY OF THE FUTURE.

I got the official conformation from Valerie R. Wolford, Communications
Director, City of Green, and here is the message:
"There is a city flag, with
two tails; however, I am unaware if there are more than just a few that would
have been created years ago. To view one, there is on in council chambers at
5300 Steese Road. I hope this information helps.
