DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
News Release
Monday, May 20, 2002
.....
Deb Bloomfield brought the Commissioners up-to-date on the status of the county flag project. She is handling the details concerning the sewing of the flag. Each county in Ohio has been requested to send their county flag to the Statehouse where it will be flown in 2003.

As Defiance County does not have a flag, a contest was held among the sixth grade students in Defiance County to design a county flag. The sixth grade class at St. Mary’s Catholic school submitted various designs. The design contest was also offered to county employees. The ideas received will be incorporated into the final flag design.

Dov Gutterman, 17 December 2002

Defiance County held a contest in 2002 to design its flag. Designs were submitted by 6th grade students and county employees. The final design shows a blue stripe between two yellow borders. 12 red stars appear around the center circle in which appears a map of the county and a man in a canoe. Defiance County was established in 1845. Its name comes from Fort Defiance built by Anthony Wayne in 1794.
