At http://www.gazettenet.com/06212003/news/6859.htm (no longer available) was a small graphic of the new flag of Hadley, New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Gazette reports it as: "A golden hawk in flight and holding the town seal with its talons is depicted on Hadley's new official flag. The flag has a blue background and yellow and gold borders, both colors associated with Hopkins Academy. The hawk is the school's mascot."
The process of creating the flag began in August 2001 when 4-H leader Thomas Waskiewicz saw that Hadley had no flag in the Statehouse's Hall of Flags. The group spoke to school groups, selectmen and other town officials and sought designs. After some 80 submissions, they narrowed their choices to eight finalists. In April 2002, 1,450 residents cast pennies into jars to select this design as their favorite. "This was the one that was voted on by the majority last year, and we're
being true to the democratic process," Waskiewicz said. The flag was designed by Emily Ward, 15, a sophomore at Hopkins Academy."
