Town flag design is nearly complete
ACUSHNET -- The town flag, designed by graphic arts students at Old Colony Regional Vocational-Technical High School in Rochester, is closer to becoming a reality. Town Administrator Alan Coutinho said prices for flag creation are being sought locally. When complete, there will be flags, for starters, at Town Hall and the Hall of Flags at the Statehouse on Beacon Hill. The new flag includes the town seal in black and white against a backdrop of maroon and bright yellow.

ACUSHNET -- This town will soon be represented in a new way on Beacon Hill. Selectmen, in a community-wide decision this week, approved an official town flag designed by students at Old Colony Regional Vocational-Technical High School in Rochester. The flag design includes a background of maroon with a black-and-white town seal centered in a circle, trimmed in yellow. The next step is Town Meeting. If voters like the design, they will be asked to fund a flag-making project. Then Acushnet's flag will go to Boston, where it will hang in the Hall of Flags at the Statehouse. Some 350 townspeople sent ballots to Town Hall. They considered six student designs that have been on community display this summer. There was general sentiment in the selectmen's meeting this week that residents selected the best design ... simple, yet bold and colorful as well."
