A photo of the flag of the City of Berne in Indiana, USA, was displayed at
http://www.adamswells.com/~cobmain/id78.htm (link no longer available). It is a
white flag with a black bear with red tongue and claws walking. The name BERNE
is arched over the bear.

This is one of the most interesting and entertaining flags of US localities.
Interesting: Checking Bern's (CH) image, above, one can
see that Berne's (IN) flag and the former flag are heraldically almost
identical. One difference: in the latter flag the bear's eyes are red; in the
former, white. I don't know the heraldic term for describing eye tinctures.
Entertaining: Only the former flag has the bear "viriled of the first" i.e.,
gules. In the latter flag (IN), the body part in question remains sable, i.e.,
indistinguishable by color from the rest of the bear's body.
