ADOPTION OF OFFICIAL FLAG FOR THE CITY OF STANTON
February 14, 1989
At the City Council meeting of January 24, 1989 the City was presented with a flag that incorporated the official City logo and colors. Since the City had no official flag, the idea of making this flag the City's official flag was considered.
Unanimously adopted as the City flag the flag presented to the City on January 24, 1989: City seal in dark blue and gold on a light blue field.
CITY SEAL
As part of the efforts by officials to enhance Stanton's image, contests to generate a new City seal and motto were conducted in early 1987. Press releases were issued and contest materials were distributed to area schools. A panel of local judges was formed to make final recommendations to the City Council.
City seal entries had to meet specific guidelines: entries had to be completed within a 12" circle, contain the words "City of Stanton" and its incorporation date of "1956" and be original art work.
There was no word limitation for the City Motto contest; however, entries had to be original and not patented by another City, and had to be submitted in English.
On March 24, 1987 the City Council unanimously adopted
"COMMUNITY PRIDE AND FORWARD VISION",
submitted by Roy Bruckner, as the City's Motto. For the City Seal, the City Council directed staff to incorporate the designs submitted by two local students: Christmas McCain, a junior at Pacific High School in Garden Grove, and Jeff Cordova, a junior at California State University, Long Beach.
Winners each received a $50 savings bond presented by the City Council.
