Description

This is the flag of Oakland, California, the county seat of Alameda County and the first city in the county to have an official flag. The flag was adopted in 1952 for the centennial celebration of the founding of the city and was the result of a contest netting a $200 prize for artist George W. Laakso of the neighboring community of San Leandro.

As seems to be the nature of municipal flags in this area, there does not appear to be an official description of the flag with details as to proportion and shade

The flag is a yellow with a green tree outline (most possibly an oak) under the word "Oakland", set in green sans serif bold capitals in arc, and above the date "1852", in smaller figures of the same face, also green.
