There are three white Chinese characters "新竹縣" ("Hsin Chu Hsien" in Gile-Wade spelling or
"Xin Zhu Xian" in Chinese pinyin), the name of the county. At the bottom is there a
character-symbol: "竹" ("chu" or "zhu"), meaning "bamboo", because Hsinchu literally
means "new bamboo".
