The municipality of Benedikt was formed in 1998 by secession from Lenart. The full name of the place, as shown on the seat of the municipality is Benedikt v Slovenskih goricah (Benedikt in the Slovenian Hills), but the municipality is simply named Benedikt.

The flag and arms of Benedikt are prescribed by
Decision Odlok o grbu in zastavi Občine Benedikt, adopted on 29 March
2000, and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list
Republike Slovenije, 36/2000.
The statutes of the local municipality (krajevna skupnost, subdivision of a
municipality) Benedikt while still part of Lenart already mentioned a
coat of arms and flag but did not define them any further.
The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:1, vertically divided white-green-white with a yellow fimbriation. Article 3 of the aforementioned decision says: "In the middle of the flag, if it is hung vertically, is the coat of arms."
The coat of arms is set so that the yellow stripe matches the yellow fimbriation of the field. The fimbriation is prescribed as 1/40 of the hoist. The decision prescribes that the ratio of the width of the coat of arms to the width of the flag is 10:23.
The colours of the coat of arms and the flag are prescribed
according as:
- Green 100% HKS 47 K; 90% HKS 3 K
- Yellow HKS 4 K
- Black HKS 88 K.

Coat of arms of Benedikt - Image by Željko Heimer, 12 June 2002
The coat of arms is a shield in proportions 20:21, vertically divided in
white and green fields of relative widths of 2:3, separated by a
golden stripe 1/20 of the whole width. In the green field there is
a white Gothic letter "B", and in the white field three golden haloed
crowns. The coat of arms is bordered with gold.
The letter "B" is the initial of Benedikt. The three crowns stand
for the parish of the Three Wise Men (the Three Holy Kings, as called in
Slovene) that was the core around which the municipality developed.

Article 3 of the aforementioned decision says: "In the middle of the flag, if it is hung vertically, is the coat of arms." This would mean that the horizontal flag does no bear the arms, while the vertical version must bear them.
