The municipality of Rogašovci was formed in 1995 from parts of the municipality of Murska Sobota. The cultural and religious center of the municipality is the town of Sveti Jurij, built around the St. George's church, first mentioned in 1366.

The flag and arms of Rogašovci are prescribed by Decision Odlok o grbu, zastavi in prazniku Občine Rogašovci, adopted on 1 October 1999 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, nr. 91/99, 10 November 1999, with effect on 16 November 1999.
The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.
Valt mentioned that the name of the municipality should have been Rogaševci, but the local inhabitants pronounce it as Rogašovci. The village of Sveti Jurij is a small village upon a hill, once important as camp in wars against Turks. The even smaller nearby village of Rogašovci gave its name to the municipality. The process of the making of the symbols was very difficult and full of compromises.
The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:5, horizontally divided blue-white-blue, with a square blue field at hoist containing the attribute from the coat of arms, St. George slaying the dragon.
The official colour specifications are:
- Yellow: Pantone 109
- Gold: Pantone 1225
- Green: Pantone 355
- Blue: Pantone 300
- Light blue: Pantone 2905
- Red: Pantone 185
- Black: Pantone Black
