and the text "Nanyang Technological University" in all capital letters appearing
on three lines.
On the white field version of the flag, the colour for
the respective word of the university title is red (Nanyang), blue

Nanyang Technological University was established in July 1991 and adopted the
coat of arms of the predecessor establishment, Nanyang Technological Institute,
which was granted in 1982. The blazon of the arms is:
"Argent a lion passant
guardant proper on a chief embattled gules a cog-wheel between two conventional
representations of an atom argent".
Letters patent and accompanying
description can be seen at
http://www.ntu.edu.sg/AboutNTU/ntuidentity/Pages/CoatofArms.aspx. The
charges represent the three original schools of Nanyang Technological Institute:
School of Civil and Structural Engineering (the embattled chief), School of
School of Mechanical and Production Engineering (cog wheel - and representing
the fields of engineering and technology in general), School of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering (the atomic symbol). The lion guardant proper is also a
feature of the coat of arms of the National University of Singapore as mentioned
before representing the close ties between Nanyang Technological Institute and
National University of Singapore.
