Description of the Flag

Based on a personal web site at http://www.users.quest.net/~rae.4332/flags.html (no longer available), developed by an inhabitant of Palau, which shows the flags of all the 16 states of Palau.  The flag is blue, with a white figure below three white stars. According the census Hatohobei has an area of 3 sq. km, a population of 51 inhabitants, and the capital is Hatohobei.

André Pires Godinho, 30 March 2003

Hatohobei's state flag was selected in a competition. Ms. Tekla Emilio's design was selected by the Flag Winning Award Committee, chaired by Mrs. Obita Victor. In the new design:
  • the three stars represent Hatohobei, Hotsarihie, and Pieraurou
  • the clam shell represents Romohparuh, the first person on Hatohobei, who claimed ownership of the island by burying a clam shell
  • the five fingers of the clam shell represent clans of Tobi
  • blue represents the territorial waters and airspace of Hatohobei State and white represents freedom and peace.
